Our mandate: The clients were looking to brighten up the stairway leading to the second floor. At the same time, they were committed to preserving the character and craftsmanship of the home’s original woodwork. Unlike the adjacent living and dining rooms—which feature vibrant colours and bold design choices—they envisioned the stairwell as a quieter, more neutral transition space. To strike this balance, we recommended a soft and timeless palette that would enhance the natural light and highlight the home’s architectural charm. By painting the stair risers and trim in a crisp, classic white, we created contrast and definition while allowing the beautiful wood tones to stand out. The result is a bright, airy staircase that feels both modern and respectful of the home’s Craftsman heritage—an elegant bridge between tradition and contemporary style.
